Biography

Carlos Eugenio Seguín was born in San Juan, Argentina, on November 11st, 1957. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the Faculty of Engineering, National University of San Juan in 1983 and graduated as PhD in Engineering Sciences at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Eng. Seguín began working at the Earthquake Research Institute (IDIA – UNSJ) in 1985, carrying out activities related to teaching, research and transference to mining, hydroelectric companies and public institutions. His research works is developed in the following fields: Seismic Design and Analysis, Seismic Isolation and Energy Dissipation.

He has participated in international and national research projects and has directed master and postgraduate theses. Furthermore, he is an advisor to the Ministry of Public Works of Chile for the writing of the Manual of Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Port Works and a permanent member of the Drafting Committee of the NCh 428 Steel Construction Standard at the Chilean Steel Institute (ICHA). He has also participated in several particularly important engineering projects both in Argentina and abroad.

He has worked as Deputy Director of the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty Engineering of the National University of San Juan, from 1991 to 1993. Currently, he is a professor of the Civil Engineering postgraduate programs of the UNSJ. In addition, since 2015 he has been teaching web courses and webinar sessions for BS Grupo Perú.
